The Beginning

  • I Have been working the bottom part of this garden for approximately eight years,it was a real challenge as it had not been cultivated for many years and had been used as a dumping ground for glass, timber, bricks and rubble,so I decided the first job was to remove as much of the rubbish as I could,I knew this was going to be a long and hard task, but was determined to make a go of it

  • These images were taken in 2013 when Richie first asked me to help him with his garden as he was getting too old to manage by himself
The Start  The garden gate was very old  The entrance to the garden
This is what the garden looked like before I started helping Richie  The weeds were not to bad and were mainly top weeds  Notice the burning bin
The images were taken on a very wet day  The spray I used to poison the weeds  I knew I was taking on a lot of hard work

Images below on the slider are the very first one I took in 2013 they are not of the highest quality because of the camera been used

Plenty of weeds and a lot of hard work to be done to get Richies garden into shape notice the very old remains of a very old polytunnel in the foreground

The vegetables in the image were swedes and cabbages needless to say they were dug up and put into the compost bin

When I look back at the run-down condition of the bottom of Richie's garden I sometimes wonder how I managed to get on top of the rubbish and weeds

When I finally got on top of the weeds and rubbish on Richiess garden I grew some great vegetables the bottom of the garden is now planted with asparagus which I grew from seed

One of the hardest jobs on any garden is removing the rubbish from previous owners, which in the past was to just move the rubbish to the rear of the garden which was hardly used for cultivation,in the modern age where recycling is recommended and you can take the rubbish to one of the local recycling centres, this is what I decided to do and much of the rubbish ended there, or was put into my house bin which sometimes was rather heavy

Weeding the new garden many of the weed were only top weeds and easily removed
The start of the weeding 2020  Many of the weeds were top weed which were easily removed   hdr
